In the first four months of 2026, Georgia imported nearly 1.1 billion kWh of electricity, according to data from the Georgian State Electrosystem. Of this, 748 million kWh came from Russia, with the majority destined for the occupied Abkhazia region.
Unlike previous years, Georgia also required significant electricity imports from Turkey, purchasing 203 million kWh between January and April. January alone accounted for 119 million kWh. Azerbaijan supplied 118.5 million kWh, traditionally one of Georgia’s main import partners, though this year Turkey has overtaken it. Notably, Turkey is typically a major export destination for Georgian electricity, with Georgia rarely importing from it.
Georgia also purchased a small amount—63 million kWh—from Armenia in January.
According to Geostat, the country spent $37.6 million on electricity imports during this period, a 54% increase year over year.
