Georgia’s government is closely cooperating with the country’s ports to support the development of port infrastructure and increase cargo handling capacity, Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said during a visit to Batumi Port.
Kvrivishvili, who visited the port together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, said the government held meetings with port operators to discuss ongoing activities and future development plans.
“We are working closely with ports operating in Georgia to maximize support for the development of port infrastructure and enable them to receive and process more cargo. This is why we visited Batumi Port and reviewed the existing infrastructure,” Kvrivishvili said.
The minister noted that port operators are reporting record cargo turnover, particularly at Batumi Port, with growth recorded across different cargo categories. She said the increase demonstrates Georgia’s growing competitiveness in international trade and highlights the country’s role in the Middle Corridor, adding that continued development of port, railway and road infrastructure is essential for strengthening Georgia’s transport network and economy.
