According to the data of the World Bank, the National Statistical System of Georgia ranks 16th Globally.
In order to assess the statistical offices of the countries throughout the world, the World Bank annually calculates Statistical Performance Indicators - SPI. The indicators are the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the statistics system of the country and to improve it the future.
According to the latest data of the World Bank which refers to 2022, the first three countries in the world in terms of the development of the National Statistics System are Finland, Norway and Canada. The statistics systems of these countries were scored with 93 points out of 100.
Georgia holds the 16th position with a score of 90.7 points, surpassing 15 EU countries (Austria, Estonia, Portugal, Slovakia, Belgium, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Malta). Moreover, our country ranks 14th on the list of the top European countries, and is the leader in the region, ranking the 1st place.
According to the same report, Georgia is also surpassing such developed countries as are Switzerland, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Iceland and Israel.
The assessment of the World Bank is carried out according to various criteria, which combines 5 pillars, 22 dimensions and more than 50 indicators. The assessment is based on such characteristics as user-oriented data, the level and quality of their disaggregation, statistical services and its use, access to data, sources, legislation, infrastructure, compliance with international standards, international cooperation etc.
The assessment by the World Bank is carries out independently, based on various sources. Its purpose is to assess the level of sustainability and development of National Statistical Systems - to produce user-oriented, reliable and high-quality official statistics, which are important for achieving global prosperity and progress.
