In the first six months of 2025, Georgia saw a notable shift in its oil and oil product imports, a decrease in cost despite an increase in volume. According to official statistics, the country imported 808,559 tons of oil and oil products worth USD 601.85 million. This represents a 4.9% decrease in value compared to the same period last year, while the volume increased by 8.9%.
The drop in import value is primarily attributed to a global decline in oil prices. Last year, Georgia paid an average of USD 853 per ton of imported oil products, whereas in the first half of 2025, the average cost dropped to USD 744 per ton.
Oil and oil products continue to be among Georgia's most significant imports. From January to June, they accounted for 6.9% of total imports, making them the second-largest import category after passenger cars, despite the overall cost reduction.
Russia maintained its position as Georgia’s leading supplier of oil and oil products, accounting for 47.2% of total imports in this category. Compared to the first half of 2024, when Georgia imported 344,960 tons worth USD 264.6 million, imports from Russia increased both in volume and value, reaching 409,171 tons valued at USD 284.5 million in 2025.
