Georgian Parliament on Thursday endorsed the nomination of Giorgi Gabitashvili for the position of the Prosecutor General of the country, with 80 votes in favour and none against.
The voting was held at an extraordinary plenary sitting of the legislative institution.
Earlier today, Gabitashvili was heard by the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament, with the nominee telling the body the “constitutional status of the Prosecutor's Office and the existing system of accountability ensure the institutional strength” of the Office.
Gabitashvili has served as the Deputy Prosecutor General since 2013.
