GNERC Extends Current Electricity Tariffs for Three Months, New Rates to Be Set in 2026

დავით ნარმანია

Georgia’s electricity tariffs will remain unchanged until January 1, 2026, after the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) decided to extend current rates for three months. Chairman David Narmania said the temporary extension allows time to finalize electricity balances and generation forecasts for the upcoming year.

Distribution companies had formally requested the three-month delay, citing uncertainty in next year’s generation projections. The decision also followed consultations with the Prime Minister, as government oversight covers areas like hydropower deregulation and system balances.

Earlier, GNERC had indicated that tariffs could rise due to planned investments of up to GEL 2 billion over five years, but Narmania clarified that an increase is not currently warranted. “The factors that could justify a tariff hike are not present, so the current rates will be maintained,” he said.

GNERC will review and set new electricity tariffs after the temporary extension ends.
