Investors have regained confidence in Georgia’s energy sector, Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said, pointing to increased bank lending as evidence of growing trust.
As of July 2026, bank lending to the energy sector exceeded GEL 3.18 billion, up GEL 731 million, or 30%, year-on-year. Kvrivishvili said the increase reflects greater confidence in the sector’s transparency, reliability, fairness and development prospects.
The energy sector ranked fifth among industries by lending volume, surpassing tourism. Lending growth has been driven by financing for small hydropower projects, as well as increasingly active wind and solar power projects in Georgia.
The sector also has a very low level of overdue loans. Of the GEL 3.18 billion energy-sector credit portfolio, only GEL 0.8 million, or 0.03%, was overdue as of July. By comparison, overdue loans account for 1.94% of total business lending.
