Georgia has an ambitious plan for developing its energy sector that matches the country’s energy potential, Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said at an event marking Energy Workers’ Day. She said the ministry had identified the strengths, weaknesses and challenges of the energy system over the past year that require advance planning by the state.
Kvrivishvili emphasized that being an energy professional is not only a sector-specific responsibility but is directly linked to the country’s security and economic stability. She said the reliable operation of the energy sector often goes unnoticed, but even a minor disruption can immediately affect the entire country.
“Energy is not only one of the most important sectors of Georgia’s economy. It is independence, security and economic strength,” Kvrivishvili said, stressing that energy security should be treated as a national priority. She added that Georgia should no longer be an energy-vulnerable country but should become energy-strong, self-sufficient and regionally significant.
According to Kvrivishvili, the government now has a clear vision, plan and ambition that correspond to Georgia’s actual energy potential. She said generation is the first pillar of the plan and highlighted investment projects scheduled to be implemented or completed in 2026-2027.
