Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has nominated Tamaz Borashvili as the new head of Georgia’s State Security Service (SSSG). Borashvili currently serves as deputy head of the State Security Service.
His nomination follows the resignation of Geka Geladze, who stepped down as SSSG chief on September 14. Geladze had been approved by Parliament for a six-year term in April 2026 but served in the position for only five months.
Geladze said he was leaving the post following consultations with the political team and would continue his work at another government agency.
Borashvili’s nomination will now be submitted to Parliament for approval. The head of the State Security Service is appointed by Parliament for a six-year term.
