Iran has expressed interest in obtaining observer status within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The Islamic Republic's request was discussed during consultations held via videoconference on August 19, 2024, chaired by the EAEU Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics, Sergey Glazyev.
Deputy foreign ministers from EAEU member states participated in the consultations, with the Iranian delegation led by Seyed Jalaladdin Alavi Sabzevari, Director-General of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Participants noted the positive development of trade and economic relations between EAEU member states and Iran and welcomed Tehran's intention to initiate the process of obtaining observer status within the Union. The final decision on this matter will be made by the heads of EAEU member states at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
