Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze says the new bus lane near Sarajishvili metro station and the Mindeli Bridge has significantly improved public transport movement, rejecting claims that the changes created new traffic congestion.
According to Kaladze, buses previously spent long periods stuck in traffic, causing delays and overcrowded stops, particularly for passengers traveling between Didi Digomi and Sarajishvili metro station.
The mayor said the new traffic scheme was introduced to improve public transport services and road safety, adding that drivers need time to adapt. City officials are continuing to monitor traffic flows and adjust the system where necessary.
The dedicated bus lane has sparked criticism from some residents, who say congestion has worsened. Kaladze acknowledged that challenges remain in the area but said the municipality is working on additional measures to further improve traffic conditions.
