Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the first phase of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port is scheduled for completion by 2029, describing the project as a major step toward strengthening the country’s economic potential.
Speaking on Imedi LIVE, Kobakhidze said the port will remain 100% state-owned, while its terminals will be operated by different international partners under the Landlord model. He argued that this approach would protect Georgia’s national interests while attracting cargo through multiple operators.
According to the prime minister, the Landlord model will allow Georgia to involve several countries and companies in the port’s operations, creating stronger incentives for cargo flows. He said there is significant international interest in the project and expressed confidence that the model offers the best balance between national ownership and commercial efficiency.
Kobakhidze also noted that reforms within the Ministry of Infrastructure are intended to improve the quality and pace of infrastructure projects. He said the Anaklia Port remains one of the government’s flagship initiatives and is expected to significantly boost Georgia’s role as a regional transit and logistics hub once operational.
