Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has criticized the state of the European media landscape, claiming that alternative viewpoints are no longer given space for public debate.
Speaking on Imedi LIVE, Kobakhidze said European media outlets and those in individual countries have become increasingly closed to differing opinions. “European media is closed to alternative views. There is absolutely no room left for discussion,” he said.
The prime minister contrasted the current situation with his experience studying in Germany between 2002 and 2006, when he said television debates were open and covered a wide range of perspectives. According to Kobakhidze, today's media environment across Europe no longer allows such discussions, which he argued has delayed broader political “awakening.”
Despite his criticism, Kobakhidze said he remains hopeful that the situation will eventually change, expressing confidence that Europe will ultimately restore open debate and enable more sovereign decision-making.
