In the first eight months of 2025, Kutaisi International Airport served 1,238,458 passengers, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy, highlighted that the growth is driven by the entry of new airlines, expanded direct flight routes, and increased flight frequencies.
“This year, we plan to revise the airport’s development plan to expand the passenger terminal capacity to 5 million,” Kvrivishvili said, emphasizing the strategic importance of the airport for Georgia’s tourism and transport sectors.
The airport is currently constructing a new 3.5 km runway as part of the first phase of its General Development Plan. Works include laying foundations, asphalt, artificial pavement, taxiways, and concrete surfaces on the aircraft parking platform. The total cost of the project is estimated at 240 million GEL.
Once completed, Kutaisi International Airport will become the country’s first F-code airport, capable of accommodating large aircraft without restrictions. Kvrivishvili noted that the new infrastructure will allow longer-distance flights, cargo operations, and a significant boost to Georgia’s economic activity and airport revenues.
