At the third Eurasian Economic Forum, held on September 30 in Yerevan, Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Narek Hovakimyan, announced that the country is in the final stages of developing a new tourism development strategy.
Hovakimyan highlighted a significant milestone in the tourism sector – the adoption of the Tourism Law, which came into effect in September 2024. According to the deputy minister, the law aims to improve service quality and protect the rights of tourists.
"This law will strengthen travelers' trust and contribute to creating a safe and comfortable environment for all visitors to our country," Hovakimyan emphasized.
Speaking about the new tourism strategy, the deputy minister noted that Armenia’s Tourism Committee is focusing on four main areas: historical and cultural tourism, adventure tourism, nature tourism, and gastronomic tourism.
"These areas highlight the diverse offerings for tourists and contribute to the development of unique tourism products," Hovakimyan stated.
Additionally, medical and business tourism are actively developing in Armenia.
Earlier, BMG reported that from January to August 2024, 1,485,035 tourists visited the country, a decrease of 127,413 people, or 7.9%, compared to the same period in 2023, when 1,612,448 tourists were registered. A decline in tourist traffic was observed almost every month of 2024 compared to the previous year.
