Between 2013 and 2025, Georgia’s Preferential Agrocredit Program issued nearly GEL 7.7 billion in loans to the agricultural sector, according to the Rural Development Agency. The state co-financed these loans with a total of GEL 1.8 billion in subsidies.

Over the past 12 years, banks issued around 90,500 loans under the program to 47,738 beneficiaries, meaning many participants used the program multiple times. Official data shows that more than half of the total loan volume went to legal entities and large companies.

The program, launched in 2013, aimed to support agricultural production, processing, storage, and sales by providing affordable financing to individuals and businesses.

However, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed to BMG that after the launch of the new State Agro Co-financing Program on July 1, the preferential agrocredit scheme will no longer continue in its current form. Under the new model, applicants seeking state co-financing will first need government approval of their business plans before receiving support.
