New Gas Deal Will Help Maintain Existing Tariffs - Kobakhidze

12

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says a new agreement with Azerbaijan on “additional gas” will allow Georgia to maintain current gas tariffs for consumers. He did not disclose the exact volume of gas to be supplied, citing commercial confidentiality.

Speaking at the Government Administration, Kobakhidze said the agreements cover gas, electricity, and energy transit through the Baku-Supsa pipeline. He emphasized that while details cannot be shared, the terms are “ideal” for Georgia and ensure long-term guarantees on both price and supply volumes.

According to him, the key outcome of the deal is stability - particularly maintaining existing tariffs for the population. He added that the agreement effectively continues previous arrangements but also introduces a new long-term framework covering around 20 years.

Kobakhidze also said Georgia secured similarly favorable terms for electricity imports and transit, which he claims will increase transit revenues and ensure a reliable and affordable energy supply from Azerbaijan.
