No threats or sanctions will scare us when it comes to defending the country’s interests - Kaladze

ივანიშვილი კალაძე

"I don’t think the UK will make this type of decision, but if they do, of course, it will be very bad. The notion that Britain has always been associated with justice will be a thing of the past," said Kakha Kaladze, General Secretary of "Georgian Dream," in response to the party’s Political Council statement regarding potential sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili. According to the statement, such a decision would tarnish the UK’s credibility.

Kaladze expressed hope that significant changes will occur after January 20.

"In recent months, we’ve been hearing and seeing statements based on injustice, and of course, it’s very troubling to witness such decisions. Every decision is grounded in lies, in untruths – they blatantly claim that black is white.

Globally, we see the state of affairs. I’m convinced that many things will change after January 20; at least everyone hopes for this. The newly elected president of the United States has openly spoken about this, stating that his first priority will be to defeat the 'Deep State.' We’ve heard numerous statements to this effect. It’s inconceivable to continue living in such injustice. Decisions are being made forcibly, with no regard for fairness.

I don’t think the UK will make such a decision, but if they do, it will be very bad. The notion that Britain has always been associated with justice will be a thing of the past," Kaladze reiterated.

When asked by a journalist whether the party’s Political Council statement, which was harsher toward the UK compared to other countries, might be linked to Bidzina Ivanishvili’s offshore companies in the Virgin Islands, Kaladze dismissed the suggestion.

"This has nothing to do with it. What do offshore companies have to do with this? For years, the man has been blackmailed to compromise the country’s interests. He was blackmailed with his personal finances. As you know, there was a legal dispute in a Swiss court, which he won, but they still haven’t returned his money. He was being blackmailed to take specific steps, and this was followed by sanctions.

Ultimately, they saw that the country’s interests are non-negotiable. No threats or sanctions will scare us when it comes to defending the country’s interests," Kaladze concluded.
