Oil Imports to Georgia Become More Expensive - Where Does Georgia Buy The Product?

ზეთი

Oil imports to Georgia have become significantly more expensive in 2025, despite a decline in import volumes. According to official statistics, between January and October 2025, the country imported 34,648 tons of oil worth USD 47.8 million, compared to 38,030 tons worth USD 40.1 million in the same period of 2024.

These figures reflect a 19% increase in value and a 9% decrease in volume, indicating that Georgia is paying more for less oil, a clear sign of rising import costs.

Where Does Georgia Buy Its Oil?

Russia remains the dominant supplier, providing the bulk of Georgia’s oil imports. From January to October 2025, Georgia imported:

  • 28,277 tons worth $38.6 million from Russia, maintaining its leading position.
  • Ukraine ranked second with 3,319 tons valued at $5.1 million.
  • United Arab Emirates followed with 1,552 tons worth $1.5 million.
  • Azerbaijan supplied 1,075 tons totaling $1.5 million.
  • Hungary rounded out the list with 309 tons worth $682,000.

The data shows that Georgia remains heavily dependent on Russian oil, while imports from other suppliers remain significantly lower. Rising global prices, transportation costs, or supplier-specific pricing changes are potential factors behind the higher import value.

The trend underscores increasing import costs for Georgia, even as overall oil volumes decline.
