Pistachio imports are growing in Georgia. The country imports mainly fresh or dried shelled pistachios, with a relatively small amount of unshelled pistachios.
According to official statistics, last year the country bought 4,289 tons of pistachios worth $24.4 million.
The figure increased by 636% in value annually, while the increase in quantity amounted to 150%.
TOP-5 importing markets:
USA - 3,173 tons worth $21 million;
Turkey - 886 tons worth $2.8 million;
Iran - 191 tons worth $198.3 thousand;
Belgium - 20 tons worth $149.6 thousand;
Israel - 12 tons worth $140.6 thousand.
As for this year, imports in January-February amounted to USD 5.8 million, which was 489% more than in the same period last year. The volume of imports is 772 tons, which represents a 152% increase year-on-year.
