Public transport operations in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, have returned to normal after a widespread bus drivers’ strike that paralyzed the city. The Yerevan Municipality reported the resolution of the disruption.
On the morning of December 3, Yerevan residents faced a major transportation collapse as a significant number of drivers from CJSC "Yerevan Bus" refused to operate their routes. The strike was triggered by dissatisfaction with wages and working conditions.
In response, city authorities took a firm stance. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan apologized to residents for the inconvenience caused but described the drivers’ actions as blackmail and pledged to hold the strike’s organizers accountable.
According to the municipality’s press service, the current wages for 15 working days, excluding taxes, range from $552 to $1,009, depending on the type of bus.
As a result of the strike, 32 drivers were dismissed. The municipality also announced that the actions of the protesters would be assessed in accordance with labor laws.
At present, public transport in the city has been fully restored, with buses running on all routes as scheduled.
