A modern rehabilitation center for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be established in Tbilisi, Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced.
The Tbilisi Municipality will allocate a 1,657-square-meter plot in Gldani to the organization “Together Against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.” The decision follows meetings with parents to discuss the needs and challenges faced by families.
The center will provide rehabilitation and educational services, while also supporting children’s development, socialization and participation in public life. The municipality will be involved in the project.
The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions over access to Duchenne medications. On June 4, a working group was established to address medicine provision after an almost two-month parent-led protest. Parents are seeking state funding for one of four medicines, all approved by the US FDA, while two also have EMA authorization.
