The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia has announced a 5.5 million GEL tender for the design of a pedestrian bridge over the Chorokhi River connecting Batumi and Gonio, as well as the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Batumi Boulevard. The project covers the old and new boulevards, the coastline, and surrounding areas near the Chorokhi River, with a total design area of 136 hectares.
According to the announcement, the project aims to create a pedestrian link between Batumi and Gonio via a new bridge while upgrading the Batumi Boulevard promenade, recreational spaces, and areas with cultural heritage status. Special emphasis is placed on the planned pedestrian bridge, which is expected to provide year-round access and integrate with the natural environment.
The project includes the integrated development of both the old and new sections of Batumi Boulevard, combining new infrastructure with the rehabilitation of existing facilities. Planned upgrades include landscaping, lighting systems, safety infrastructure, utility networks, and universal design principles. It also covers recreational and public amenities such as children’s and sports areas, an amphitheater, cycling and pedestrian paths, as well as improvements to Ardagani Lake and fountain systems.
In addition, the design scope includes new public facilities such as kiosks, sanitary units, open showers, administrative buildings, parking areas, camper zones, and rentable structures with unified design standards. The tender also covers full modernization of engineering infrastructure, including water supply, sewage, drainage, electricity, lighting, and surveillance systems. The deadline for proposals is August 3, 2026, with the winning bidder required to complete the design documentation within eight months, meaning construction is unlikely to begin before the 2027 summer season.
