The tourist flow to Armenia in the first quarter of this year decreased due to a reduction in visits from Russia.
In the first quarter of this year, the number of tourists visiting Armenia amounted to 435,775 people, which is 3.2% (14,206) lower than the figure for the same period last year.
According to the Statistical Committee, the main reason for the reduction in the tourist flow is associated with a decrease in the number of Russian tourists. In the first quarter of this year, 184,317 citizens of Russia arrived in Armenia, which is 51,703 people or 21.9% less than in the same period last year.
However, some countries showed growth. For example, the number of tourists from Iran increased by 32.6%, from Georgia by 15.5%, and from India by 2.7 times.
In addition, the number of tourists leaving Armenia also increased by about 14%. Thus, in the first quarter of 2024, 380,770 people left Armenia for tourism purposes. At the same time, last year for the same quarter, this number was 333,863 people.
