Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced that the construction of a new city park on the territory of the former hippodrome has already begun.
According to Kaladze, the project is being carried out by the foundation “Cartu,” with the direct involvement of Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family.
“A park will be built on the territory of the hippodrome, the process of which has already begun. The works are being implemented by the foundation ‘Cartu.’ Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili’s family is directly involved in the project. ‘Cartu’ and Bidzina Ivanishvili transferred this territory to the municipality, and at the same time, he is investing personally so that the city has a central park,” said the Mayor.
Kaladze also commented on the skyscraper project planned by “Wissol Group” on Tamarashvili Street No. 13, noting that it has no connection to the hippodrome’s territory.
The park project on the former hippodrome territory was first announced in 2020, when Kakha Kaladze and the Chairman of the “Cartu Foundation” Board of Directors, Nikoloz Chkhetiani, officially launched its construction. The foundation transferred the land to Tbilisi Municipality under a donation agreement. In 2022, several changes were made to the project, and according to the foundation, the total cost of building the new central park is expected to reach approximately USD 20 million.
