The official statistics show, that pharmaceutical medicines are included in the list of top import items. Medicine imports made up 3.5% of total imports and ranks on the fourth place in the top ten largest import items. The product is on the 10th place with 2.3% in the top ten of export goods.
BM.GE inquired from where Georgia bought pharmaceutical medicines last year.
According to official statistics, Georgia spent USD 354.6 million to purchase medicines in 2021, which is 12.6% more compared to the imports. The same statistics show that neighboring Turkey has a significant share in the imports, it ranks second among the major importing countries.

The list of importing countries include Spain, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Korea, Latvia, USA. Belgium, Belarus, Austria, Argentina, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Denmark, China, etc.
As for the export of medicines, compared to 2020, the export of medicines in 2021 increased by 0.1% and amounted to USD 99.1 million.
