The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has significantly expanded its presence in Armenia in recent years, increasing funding by 75% since 2018. This was highlighted by John Allelo, Director of the USAID Armenia Mission, in an interview with Public Television, emphasizing growing support for the country's democratic transformations.
Currently, the agency is implementing 32 programs across Armenia, covering a wide range of areas, including legal reforms, anti-corruption efforts, support for women entrepreneurs, and the introduction of innovative technologies in agriculture. Special attention is being given to strengthening democratic institutions, enhancing resilience, and fostering social inclusion.
According to Allelo, the agency aims to establish an effective dialogue between Armenia's authorities and its citizens. USAID supports the development of independent media and media literacy to ensure that citizens have access to reliable information about events in the country. The agency also assists the Armenian government in coordinating efforts with international donors.
"The 75% increase in funding since 2018 reflects the U.S. government's confidence in Armenia's ability to build a democratic state," Allelo emphasized, noting that the agency works with both the government and civil society, regardless of political circumstances.
