We Don’t Build Infrastructure for Show; Georgia Can’t Afford Wasteful Spending - Revaz Sokhadze

რევაზ სოხაძე

Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze says Georgia must approach public construction with responsibility, not showcase projects. Speaking on Rustavi 2’s program Debates, he stressed that infrastructure should serve future generations and that the country is “not wealthy enough to spend money carelessly.” According to him, every project must be treated with the same diligence as building one’s own home.

Sokhadze highlighted that improving quality is essential. He said the ministry has strengthened quality control mechanisms and created new structural units to oversee construction standards. The minister, along with his team, personally inspects sites daily to ensure compliance and transparency.

He criticized past “harmful practices,” including improper attitudes from some government representatives that influenced how businesses operated. Sokhadze said these practices are no longer acceptable. The ministry aims to restore trust by ensuring that all tenders are fully transparent and competitive, but businesses must also work to regain credibility and meet higher standards.

The minister emphasized the need for stronger private-sector involvement, including investment in equipment and employee training. He noted that the government views businesses as partners in delivering high-quality infrastructure, but added that private companies must also commit to improving their capabilities to achieve long-term, sustainable results.
