According to Deputy Minister of Finance Giorgi Kakauridze, if a decision is made to agree on a new program with the IMF, it should first be done by agreeing on the reforms, which the government believes that IMF's assistance would be useful. Kakauridze stated this in response to a question from BMG.
According to him, a technical mission of the Fund will visit Georgia late in May, however, the purpose of this mission is to assess the country's economy and there will be no discussion of a new program agreement now.
"I will repeat the program request once again and I have commented on this before, it is not an end in itself. We are expecting the mission to arrive late in May. Between May and June, we will discuss the so-called fourth article, assess the economic situation in the country, forecasts, and also go through the possible reforms that may be on our agenda.
After that, when we analyze on what reforms the new program can be based on. Neither the previous program nor the program before that, we had money. We will not have a new program for money either. As you know, we have completed a number of programs from the IMF without talking about taking money, because the main thing for us here was part of the reforms and their support in the reforms", - Kakauridze said.
