Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and his Hungarian counterpart Mihály Varga on Tuesday discussed the project for the Black Sea submarine cable, an international initiative to create a new transmission route to deliver green energy from the South Caucasus to Europe.
Khutsishvili said the project would open access to “additional export markets” for Georgia and the surrounding region.
He also emphasised the project’s role for energy security of the European Union, and for the bloc to “overcome the challenges it is facing”.
"Our agencies have traditionally maintained a very close relationship, and our discussions included both current and future projects”, Khutsishvili said following the meeting with Varga.
He also expressed gratitude for Hungary's support of Georgia’s European integration efforts.
In his turn, Varga affirmed his Government’s commitment to continuing “active cooperation” with Georgia, the Ministry of Finance said.
