Imports of salmon (red) caviar in Georgia increased, while imports of sturgeon caviar (black) decreased as of 11M2024.
According to Geostat, between January and November, the country purchased 0.14 tons of black caviar (sturgeon) worth $89,370. Compared to the first 11 months of 2023, imports of black caviar decreased by 50% in value and by 88% in quantity.
In addition, unlike in 2023, sturgeon caviar was no longer imported to Georgia from Russia and China in 2024. In January-November, importing markets were as follows:
France - $40,890;
Italy - $39,190;
Latvia - $9,300.
As for red (salmon) caviar and its other substitutes, according to Geostat, Georgia paid $1.4 million for the purchase of 115 tons of caviar in 11 months in 2024. The annual increase in value is 18%, and in quantity is 31%.
According to data from 11 months of 2024, the largest amount of red caviar was imported to Georgia from Russia. Compared to the same period in 2023, caviar imports from Russia increased by 181% in quantity.
Georgia buys red caviar from the following countries:
Russia - $890,090/62 tons;
China - $239,100/12 tons;
Belarus - $181,080/37 tons;
Poland - $38,340/2 tons;
Latvia - $26,390/0.19 tons.
Small quantities of product also came from Finland ($11,530), Ukraine ($5,900) and Germany ($5,360).
