Numerous violations have been discovered at the construction sites of high-rise buildings in Yerevan. This was reported by Ruben Khojoyan, Deputy Head of the Environmental Protection Department of the Yerevan Municipality.
According to the official, 248 high-rise buildings are currently under construction in the Armenian capital. Violations of various kinds have been identified at almost all sites.
In the first half of 2024, city authorities issued 534 administrative protocols related to air pollution at construction sites. The majority of developers have been fined.
The most common violations include:
- Lack of special dust-collecting nets (147 cases)
- Absence of air quality measurement devices (78 cases)
The fines for such violations range from 70,000 to 100,000 drams (approximately 175-250 USD). For repeated offenses, the fines increase.
Khojoyan noted that the city authorities intend to strengthen control over the enforcement of environmental regulations at construction sites in Yerevan.
BMG reminds that construction is one of the key drivers of economic growth in Armenia. According to the latest data from the Statistical Committee, the sector is showing significant growth. In June of this year, the construction industry grew by 18% compared to the same period last year, which is one of the highest growth rates among all sectors of the economy.
From January to June 2024, the construction sector grew by 18.2% compared to the same period the previous year.
