The capital of Armenia, Yerevan, and the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, have become sister cities.
According to BMG, the agreement was signed at the residence of the President of Armenia on April 15 after a meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The document declaring the cities as sister cities was signed by the Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, and the Mayor of Astana, Zhenis Kassymbek.
Armenia and Kazakhstan intend to expand their economic contacts, which have recently become significantly more active. However, the parties do not intend to stop at what has been achieved. On April 15, during an official visit to Yerevan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan is ready to increase its exports to Armenia to $350 million.
Earlier, BMG reported that in 2023, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Kazakhstan increased by 2.4 times, reaching $100.5 million. During this period, exports grew by 3.8 times, reaching $71.3 million, while imports increased by 23.6%, totaling $29.2 million.
Recently, Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu announced plans to establish an Armenian-Kazakhstani Business Council as part of further development of trade and economic programs between the two countries.
